The advance weight springs
need to be lightened. JEGS Performance
has a Pre-69 Delco-Remy distributor advance weight kit for under $10 that
comes with light, medium and heavy springs and a set of weights. The light
ones should get all your advance in by 2000 RPM.
I have not got mine yet as of making this web page but they are on order.

Mount the new point plate
to the distributor housing with the two stock screws. Replace the two
screws that held the vacuum advance on and Loctite
|
|
|
|
|
|
Select one of the two 6 cylinder
shutter wheels from the two XR700 kits. Place it on the distributor shaft,
rotate it until it fits with the cam lobes. Push it on with the new rotor.
Don't push by the shutter wheel you can damage it.
