First things first, disassemble and clean the distributor. You can toss the old Cap, rotor, points, and vacuum advance, they are not needed.
Prepare the sub plate by removing the points and grinding or drilling the pivot stud for the stock point plate. Keep the sub plate toss the points and stock point plate after you use it to make your hold down screws.
Remove the two tabs shown in the picture at right. They will not let the point plate sit flat.
